How I Put My Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue Into Remission After 30+ Years of Pain

Four years ago, in the midst of my healing journey, I was about to unknowingly face three years of trauma.

If you’re living with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, an autoimmune disorder, or another invisible illness, I see you. I’ve been there. And for most of my life, I didn’t know if I’d ever see the other side.

My symptoms began at just eight years old. By age 13, I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. What followed was decades of exhaustion, pain, and a constant search for relief. I spent years inside the medical system, trying to survive on prescription after prescription and treatment after treatment.

Life Before Holistic Healing

In my teens and twenties, I cycled through medications for pain, insomnia, depression & anxiety (likely caused by the birth control pill) and menstrual irregularities. At one point in my 20s, I was on six prescription medications at once. Each one promised relief. None of them gave me my life back.

Over the years, I tried many treatments, including: physiotherapy, osteopathy, massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathic care, chiropractic care, different types of talk therapy, IV therapy, trigger point injections, and epidurals. Some brought relief, while others didn’t, but each step taught me more about my body and my healing journey.

This was not a life I would wish on anyone. I was existing, but I wasn’t truly living.

The Shift at 32

Everything changed when I became a Registered Holistic Nutritionist at age 32. That’s when my true healing began. I started looking at my body not as something broken, but as something deeply wise, and I began to work with it, not against it.

When I had my daughter Emma at 33, I had already weaned myself off all prescription medications. I was determined to raise her naturally and protect her from developing a chronic illness like mine.

The Decade That Changed Everything

Over the past 10 years, I rebuilt my health using natural medicine, nutrition, supplements, lifestyle changes, trauma healing, and nervous system regulation. There was no magic pill, no quick fix, just slow, steady progress, peeling back the layers of an onion, even through the toughest seasons of my life.

During my healing, I:

  • Navigated pregnancy and postpartum.

  • Became a solo mama.

  • Grieved the sudden loss of my father to cancer.

  • Faced deep personal trauma that shook my nervous system to its core.

And still, I kept going.

Life in Remission Today

Now, at 41 years old, my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue are in remission. I take zero prescription medications. I can take long walks and hikes, go for bike rides, attend concerts, cook, clean, go out, socialize often, travel and live a life that feels normal, something I never thought I’d have again.

I get to raise Emma in a way that honours the body’s natural ability to heal. I get to do work I love, guiding other women through their own chronic illness recovery journeys.

What Worked for Me

Everyone’s healing path looks different, but here’s what changed everything for me:

1. Food as Medicine – I learned which foods triggered inflammation and which ones truly nourished me. I stabilized my blood sugar, healed my gut, and made anti-inflammatory eating my foundation.

2. Targeted Supplementation – Magnesium, omega-3s, vitamin D, adaptogens, and many, many more, always chosen intentionally based on what my body actually needed.

3. Lifestyle Alignment – Gentle movement, rest, pacing, toxin reduction, and learning to say no.

4. Trauma Healing & Nervous System Regulation – Somatic work, breath-work, and emotional processing were non-negotiable. Chronic illness doesn’t just live in the body, it lives in the nervous system.

5. Supportive Relationships – Surrounding myself with people who uplifted and encouraged me was essential for healing. Positive connections helped regulate my nervous system and reinforced my resilience.

I survived. And now, I’m thriving.
