You Got the Diagnosis. Then What?

I don't know about you, but when I finally got my diagnosis at 13, I thought that was it. I thought the hard part was over. They figured it out! Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. FINALLY someone could tell me why I was in pain every single day, why I was exhausted, why my body felt like it belonged to someone twice my age. I remember feeling relieved. Like OK, now they know what it is, they can FIX it! They couldn't.

Sound Familiar?

Maybe your story sounds like mine. Maybe you have fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, Hashimoto's, lupus, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, POTS, or something else entirely. Maybe you STILL don't have a name for what you are going through and you are stuck in that awful space between "something is definitely wrong" and "we can't find anything." Either way, I bet you know this feeling: you have the diagnosis (or you don't), and you STILL feel terrible. The name didn't come with answers. It came with a prescription. Maybe a few. Maybe a LOT. And then... good luck!

I lived in that space for almost 20 years. And I want to tell you what changed for me, because it might change things for you too.

What Happened After My Diagnosis

After I was diagnosed at 13, the plan was a muscle relaxant and a painkiller. That was it. Nobody asked WHY a 13-year-old was in chronic pain. Nobody looked at my food, my gut, my sleep, my stress, my nervous system, or anything beneath the surface. I don't blame my doctors for that. They were working within a system that is designed for acute care, infections, injuries, emergencies, and they are incredible at that! But chronic, complex, multi-system illness? That is a different conversation. And it is a conversation that system isn't really set up to have in a 15-minute appointment.

So I did what most of us do. I pushed through. I took the medications. I added more medications when those didn't work. Birth control for painful periods. Sleep meds for insomnia. Antidepressants for the anxiety and depression that came WITH the chronic pain. Trigger point injections. Epidurals. For almost 20 years! I played competitive soccer. I got straight A's. I built a career in HR working 60-hour weeks. I smiled and said "I'm fine" about ten thousand times. Because that is what you do when you have a chronic illness nobody can see. You push through!

The Question Nobody Asked

When I became a Holistic Nutritionist at 31, I started asking the question that changed everything for me: WHY. Why was my immune system so reactive? Why was my gut a disaster? Why couldn't I sleep even when I was exhausted? Why did certain foods make everything worse? Why were my hormones all over the place? Why was my pain worse during stress and cold weather? For the first time in almost two decades, I started getting answers. REAL answers. And those answers led to changes. And those changes led to results I honestly didn't think were possible.

I learned that my gut was driving a huge amount of my inflammation. That the medications I had been on for years had depleted critical nutrients my body needed (nobody told me that!). That my nervous system had been stuck in survival mode since childhood. That the food I thought was healthy was actually adding fuel to the fire. Everything was connected. EVERYTHING. And once I started seeing the connections, I couldn't unsee them.

Where I Am Now

Last week my medical doctor told me something I never thought I would hear. She said that based on everything I was describing, I am living OPTIMALLY with my chronic illness. That most of her patients with conditions like mine are still on medications for pain, sleep, and other symptoms. Some are on disability. I work full time. I run my own business. I don't flare often anymore, and when I do, I recover fast. I haven't touched a prescription in nearly a decade. I feel better at 42 than I did at 20. I truly mean that!

That didn't happen because of the diagnosis I received at 13. It happened because I went BEYOND the diagnosis. I looked at root causes. I changed my food. I added targeted supplements. I healed my gut. I optimized my sleep. I balanced my hormones. I learned how to read my own labs through a functional lens instead of accepting "normal" when I knew something was off. And I did the deep nervous system and emotional work that honestly changed everything the most.

I still have fibromyalgia. I still have chronic fatigue. I still have flare-ups. This is not a cure story! It is a story of finally understanding my body and giving it what it actually needed. Slow and steady wins the race!

What I Want You to Know

If you have a diagnosis and you STILL feel terrible, that is not your fault. The diagnosis was just the starting line. The real healing begins when you start understanding what is happening UNDERNEATH the label. And if you don't have a diagnosis? If you are stuck in that space where you KNOW something is wrong but nobody can find it? The root cause approach works for you too. Because the things that drive chronic illness, the inflammation, the gut dysfunction, the nutrient depletion, the hormonal imbalance, the toxic load, the nervous system stuck in overdrive, they are the same regardless of what the label is. Or isn't!

Your body is not a mystery. It is a system. And once you understand the system, everything starts to make sense. I promise!

This Is What I Built My Course For

I built Becoming Yourself Again for the woman I used to be. The one with the diagnosis and no roadmap. The one who was doing everything "right" and still feeling terrible. The one who kept being told she was fine when she knew she wasn't. It is 12 modules covering food, supplements, digestion, gut health, toxic load, sleep, hormones, labs, testing, genetics, nervous system healing, and integration. The FULL picture. Mind, body, and spirit. Because that is what it took for ME and I truly believe that is what it takes for most of us!

One of my founding members just told me: "This course is going to be life-changing." I cried when I read that. Because THAT is why I built it!
